What to know before you book

Empty legs

Repositioning flights from Doha

Doha has an unusual empty-leg profile because Qatar Executive runs a large owned fleet out of the airport and repositions it constantly. London, Geneva, Nice, Riyadh, Male and Mumbai are the corridors where legs surface most often. When they do, they are frequently on newer heavy or ultra-long-range aircraft rather than the older tail numbers you see on empty-leg lists elsewhere, and pricing typically sits 40-70% below the on-demand rate.

FAQ

Charter from Doha, questions we get

Which airport do private jets use in Doha?
Hamad International (DOH). Private and business aviation is processed separately from the main passenger terminals through Qatar Executive's premium terminal, with Qatar Aviation Services providing VIP handling. The old Doha International airfield is reserved for state, Amiri Flight and military use.
How long is the runway at Hamad International?
The main runway 16L/34R is 4,850 m and the second runway 16R/34L is 4,250 m. That is more than enough for a fully fuelled Global 7500 or BBJ even on a hot summer afternoon.
How far is Hamad International from central Doha?
The airport is on the coast just east of the city, roughly 15 km from the West Bay business district, which is about 20 minutes by road outside peak traffic.
What does Doha to London cost on a private jet?
An ultra-long-range aircraft carrying up to 14 passengers runs roughly 78,000 to 98,000 USD one way, with block time near seven hours to Farnborough or Luton. Heavy jets can do the sector too and price 15 to 20% lower.
Can I fly nonstop from Doha to New York?
Yes. A G650ER or Global 7500 covers it comfortably. Expect 13 to 14 hours westbound and roughly 12 hours eastbound depending on the jet stream.
How busy is Hamad International?
It recorded 282,975 aircraft movements and 54.3 million passengers in 2025. That volume matters mainly at peak airline banks, when a private departure may be sequenced behind widebody traffic.
How quickly can a charter depart from Doha?
Four to six hours from firm booking is realistic when an aircraft is already on the ground and the destination is inside the region. Add 24 to 48 hours for destinations that need special permits.
Is there a VIP terminal in Doha?
Yes. Qatar Executive operates a premium terminal for business-aviation passengers, and the airport also has an Amiri terminal used for royal and state movements.
Market notes

On chartering from Doha

Doha is the rare Gulf capital where private aviation is concentrated at a single airport, and that turns out to be a strength rather than a constraint. Hamad International opened in 2014 with runways of 4,850 m and 4,250 m, and it now handles more than 280,000 aircraft movements a year. Private traffic is processed through Qatar Executive's premium terminal rather than the main passenger halls, so the practical experience is closer to a dedicated executive airport than the movement figures suggest.

Runway length is the quiet advantage here. At 4,850 m, 16L/34R removes the payload and fuel trade-offs that shape departures elsewhere in the region during summer. A Global 7500 or G650ER leaving Doha for the US East Coast in July does not need to shed passengers or plan a technical stop, and a BBJ carrying a full delegation is a non-event. That, plus the 4,250 m second runway, is why the airport absorbs large VIP airliner traffic without the sequencing problems seen at shorter Gulf fields.

The operator picture is dominated by Qatar Executive, the business-aviation arm of Qatar Airways, which runs a large owned fleet of Gulfstreams from the airport. That has two effects on charter. Availability of newer heavy and ultra-long-range aircraft is unusually good at short notice, and repositioning legs to Europe and the Indian Ocean appear frequently, which is where the useful empty-leg pricing comes from. Qatar Aviation Services provides VIP ground handling, and the Amiri terminal handles state and royal movements on the same field.

The old Doha International airport, 5 km from the city centre, still confuses people. It closed to scheduled traffic in 2014 but its 4,572 m runway on 15/33 remains active, and the site houses the Qatar Emiri Air Force, Qatar Amiri Flight, Rizon Jet and Gulf Helicopters. It is not a general-access charter airport. Unless your operator already holds standing arrangements there, every commercial charter into or out of Doha will use Hamad.
