Gulfstream G650 vs Bombardier Global 7500: Beyond the Spec Sheet
One has the world's most panoramic windows, the other has the world's lowest cabin altitude. On a 14-hour sector, only one of those matters. Here is how the two ultra-long-range benchmarks compare in 2026, and where the G700 and Global 8000 sit above them.
Ask any broker for the biggest, farthest business jet in charter service today and the answer is one of two aircraft: the Gulfstream G650ER or the Bombardier Global 7500. They share a customer base, share a price bracket, share the top of the manufacturers' catalogues, and are routinely quoted against each other on the same request. The spec sheets look almost identical. In the air they feel different, and on the operating side the differences are large enough to matter to charter buyers.
Published range, and what the footnote actually means
Gulfstream publishes 7,500 nm for the G650ER and 7,000 nm for the G650, with the critical qualifier that this is "NBAA IFR theoretical range at Mach 0.85 with 8 passengers, 4 crew and NBAA IFR reserves." Bombardier publishes 7,700 nm (14,260 km) for the Global 7500, upgradeable to 8,000 nm. On paper the Global 7500 holds a 200 nm advantage over the G650ER and 700 nm over the baseline G650.
Those book figures are conditional in ways every writer glosses over. Dassault, for reference, states its Falcon 8X range is computed at Mach 0.80 with 8 passengers and 3 crew (85% Annual Wind, NBAA IFR Reserves) - manufacturer numbers already embed a wind assumption. A strong winter westbound jet stream, a fuller cabin, a heavier bag load, or a Mach 0.87 cruise instead of 0.85 all eat into that number. Neither manufacturer publishes a 4-passenger, worst-case-headwind figure, so treat book range as a best-case ceiling, not a promise.

The Global 7500's cabin is 2.3 m longer than the G650's, and Bombardier turns that length into a discrete Private Suite - a real bedroom, not just a divan. The G650 is marginally wider and taller, and Gulfstream's 28-inch-wide signature windows - 16 of them, at 28 by 20.5 inches - remain the type's calling card. If a client cares about daylight and view, the G650 wins in the cabin. If they care about a dedicated sleeping zone at the back and a proper meeting zone in the middle, the Global 7500 wins.
Cabin altitude and speed: what actually matters at hour 12
Cabin altitude is where the two diverge most meaningfully. Gulfstream cites a cabin altitude of 1,003 m (about 3,290 ft) at 12,497 m (41,000 ft). Bombardier's Global 7500 with the upgrade package delivers a reduced cabin altitude of 2,691 ft at FL410 - the figure Bombardier claims as the lowest cabin altitude of any business aircraft. Roughly 600 feet lower is not marketing noise on a 14-hour DXB-JFK sector: it is measurably better fatigue and dehydration on arrival.
Speed is functionally tied. The G650ER's Mmo is Mach 0.925 with high-speed cruise at M0.90. The Global 7500's top speed is M0.925, rising to M0.95 with the Global 8000 upgrade package. Neither has a meaningful advantage in real charter service.
Airframes in service, operators, and 2026 hourly rates
- G650 family: 598 built, production ended February 2025. Powered by Rolls-Royce BR725. Charter listings specify two BR725 A1-12 engines at 16,900 lb thrust each.
- Global 7500: 200 built as of September 2024, introduced 20 December 2018, programme cost exceeded USD 1 billion, 2023 equipped price $78 million. Two GE Passport engines at 18,920 lbf each, and Mercury Jets notes it is the largest business jet that can land at London City Airport.

The G650 costs roughly 10 to 20% less per hour on the average broker page. On a 14-hour DXB-JFK mission that is a real number - $14,000 or more per trip either way.
The successors: G700 and Global 8000
Both types are now in service in 2026.
G700
Gulfstream announced on 10 June 2026 that it had completed the 100th customer delivery of the G700 and set its 100th city-pair speed record, with the 101st delivery recorded on 11 June. Specs: 7,750 nmi range, Mmo M0.935, 56 ft 11 in cabin, 2,603 cu ft cabin volume, 20 windows, up to 5 living areas, Pearl 700 engines. Qatar Executive took its 10th G700 in April 2026. Gulfstream delivered 19 more large-cabin jets through the first nine months of 2026 than a year earlier, with first-half 2026 sales the highest since 2022.
Global 8000
Bombardier's Global 8000 offers 8,000 nm, top speed M0.95, ultra-high-speed cruise M0.92, cabin altitude 2,691 ft, 51,000 ft ceiling, 5,760 ft takeoff, 2,220 ft landing, GE Passport engines at 18,920 lbf. Bombardier markets it as the world's fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde. Certification: Transport Canada 5 November 2025, FAA 19 December 2025, EASA January 2026. Entry into service was marked on 8 December at Mississauga, and it made its flight-line debut at Farnborough in July 2026. Existing Global 7500s are upgradeable to Global 8000 spec via service bulletin at a cost of around $3 million. The first Global 8000 went to Canadian businessman Patrick Dovigi, a 15-year Bombardier customer and founder of GFL, replacing his Global 7500.
How to actually choose in 2026
- Sector length under 10 hours, mid-Atlantic or mid-Pacific: both do it comfortably. Pick on availability and price. The G650 will usually be $1,000 to $3,000 cheaper per hour.
- Sector length 12 hours plus, ultra-long-haul like DXB-JFK, LAX-SYD, HKG-JFK: both do it. The Global 7500's cabin altitude and dedicated Private Suite give it the edge for sleep. The G650's window count wins the daylight case.
- Groups of 12 to 18 with real luggage: either. Cabin volume is functionally similar.
- Small London City departures: Global 7500 is the only ultra-long-range aircraft type-rated in.
- Absolute range or top speed: either upgrade to G700 or Global 8000. Both are in service.
The honest ranking: in 2026 these two aircraft are still the best charter product money can buy at the ultra-long-range end, and the choice between them is closer to picking between a Rolls-Royce Ghost and a Bentley Flying Spur than between a Toyota and a Ford. Get both quoted; the winner is usually whichever operator has the aircraft on the right side of the ocean on your date.
